\n About the Artwork <\/h2>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n \n\n\n

Each Montcalm suite features a collection of artwork inspired by the character of the Marquis of Montcalm with references to nobility, adventure, and his role as a naval commander. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Above the bed, guests sleep under a dreamy still-life painting by American artist Jake Messing, which references the Marquis\u2019s character with imagery related to his life and interests. Deep reds and rust colored flora create a visceral and proud tie to his time on the battlefield as a commander. The star-shaped medal connects to his awarded career and the playful blue sash is pulled from one he wore in other historical paintings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beside the bed hangs a signature sleep poem, illustrated by Swedish artist Petra B\u00f6rner. These poems were commissioned through a Call to Writers launched in partnership with Goldsmiths, University of London\u2019s MA course for Creative Writing. They are written by poets Josh Geffin and Ese Erheriene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional artwork includes pieces collected from brocantes in France, Belgium, and the UK, as well as a pair of statement artworks by French artist Astrid DLV whose love of vibrant and contrasting colors emphasizes the duality of emotions associated with memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
