This large-scale painting, entitled Winter, represents passage and stillness — a time of fading light, falling leaves, and quiet preparation, when the abundance of harvest gives way to rest and renewal. London artist Will Foster created a series of 6 paintings for the hotel Lift Lobbies, inspired by the color symphony of a garden’s changing seasons. Each painting captures the rhythmic energy and fluid transitions of both nature and sound, creating a dynamic visual experience. The artist was inspired by expressive abstract works by 20th century painter Joan Mitchell.
On the opposite wall, a smaller painting by Scottish artist Kim Scouller features a portrait of the hotel’s namesake, the Marquis of Montcalm, one of the featured historic characters. Kim Scouller’s portraits aim to inhabit a feeling of the depicted characters through bold colour and lively brushwork. Quiet reflection is channelled into bold painterly brushstokes, giving pause to examine and process the subject, recording it in paint.
